I decided to make a list of the current top 10 NHL players. So I will list them from 10 to 1 with a little description of why I think they deserved to be in the top 10.
10. Zach Parise, He had his best year in points last year with over 50 goals and 96 points. He also showed his ability to play on the big stage when being one of team USA's best players in the 2010 winter Olympics. He scored the tying goal with under 30 seconds left to tie team Canada in the gold medal game.
9. Anze Kopitar, He is kind of an unknown great player. He is 14th in the league in points while leading the Los Angles Kings back to the playoffs for the first time in a long time. His great scoring ability and leadership have hockey buzzing again in Los Angels.
8. Henrik Sedin, currently leading the NHL in points, and the first player to reach 100 points this year. He has an uncanny chemistry with his twin brother Daniel and they have the Vancuver Canucks hot and ready to battle for the Stanley cup. He combines a great play making ability with a beautiful goal scoring touch to be a very dangerous all around player.
7. Evegeni Malkin, in his young career he already has a Stanley Cup, Conn Smyth, and a Art Ross Trophy. All three awards came last year. As he dominated the NHL while helping lead the Penguins to the championship. He has a remarkable shot, great hands, and fantastic passing ability. He also has great size which makes him very, very difficult to defend.
6. Henrik Zetterburg, has won a couple of Stanley Cups, and is one of the best two way forwards in the league. Not only can he light it up on the offensive end, he is a monster defensively. He does a fantastic job of shutting down the other teams top forwards, as well as, being a dangerous threat offensively.
5. Marian Hossa, is one of the leagues best snipers, but is not just one dimensional. He has blinding speed with good size and hands. He works extremely hard and is a game changer. This guy can flat out play.
4. Patrick Kane, a new young superstar who is quickly making a name for himself. He leads the Chicago Blackhawks alongside Hossa. They have the Hawks in second place in the west and a top cup contender. Kane proved himself when he dominated for USA in the Olympics. He's silky smooth hands and deadly wrist shot makes this young crafty player sensational.
3. Ryan Miller, the only goalie to make the list so that should tell you enough right there. In the Olympics he was a superstar, winning the tournament MVP. He showed that he could single handedly win games playing the most important position in the hockey. Not to mention goalies are judge by their performances in big games, and he showed he comes to play.
2. Alexander Ovechkin, the deadliest sniper in the world. Ovechkin can flat out score. He has lead the Washington Capitals to first in the east and maybe the top cup contender. Not only does he own the best shot in the league and is one of the faces of the NHL, this guy plays tough. He is always in the league leaders in hits and when he hits you, he goes for a knockout blow. Could very well be the most exciting player to watch with the goal scoring, speed, and huge hits.
1. Sidney Crosby, the face of the NHL and man has he lived up to the hype. He has scoring titles and MVP's to go along with his Stanley Cup and gold medal. He scored the game winning goal in overtime in the Olympics and was the youngest captain to ever win a Stanley Cup. Sid has saved the NHL and the Penguins and is the most recognizable name in hockey. He is in the top of the league in faceoffs and shootouts going 8 for 10 on the season. He plays excellent defense, maybe is the best passer in the league, as well as, currently leads the NHL with 47 goals. This kid is a professional in every phase of the word. He's a leader and a winner and the best all around player in the league.
